Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy   - Is it right for me?

Hormonal imbalance are very common as women age and can negatively impact your quality of life.  When a woman's hormones are out of balance, it is much more likely that she will experience symptoms that negatively impact her quality of life. Over time, these hormone imbalances may lead to premature symptoms of aging as well as a greater likelihood of developing disease.  When working with patients, Dr Hoffman's objective is to restore proper hormone balance in the most natural way possible.  This assures that you are being supported and cared for in a way that minimizes the possibility of risk and side effects.  Dr. Hoffman is an expert in restoring hormone balance, integrative medicine, naturopathic medicine and advanced therapies to help you regain your vitality for life.

What are Bio-identical Hormones?

Bio-identical hormones are prescribed by Dr. Hoffman and structurally the same as the hormones your body naturally produces.  Examples of bioidentical hormones include:

  • Estriol
  • Estradiol
  • Progesterone
  • Pregnenalone
  • Testosterone
  • Cortisol
  • Thyroid hormones

Bioidentical Hormones are Natural:

HRT (also known as hormone replacement) is not the same as BHRT (bio-identical hormone repletion).

The largest study of its kind, the Women's health Initiative (WHI study) investigated the effects that some "non-bioidentical" hormones had on women's bodies.  The researchers found that women taking hormones such as Provera and Premarin as well as BCPs (birth control pills), had a higher rate of:

  • Breast cancer
  • Heart attacks
  • Strokes
  • Blood clots

Bio-identical Hormones and Research

Many well designed, double blind placebo controlled studies have shown that the use of bio-identical hormones can effectively restore the body's normal balance of hormones. Normalizing your body's hormones can help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, premature aging, osteoporosis, alzheimer's disease as well as other diseases.  The clinical evidence found in the practice of thousands of doctor's offices nation wide has also found bio-identical hormones to be effective at improving quality of life by improving such symptoms as:

  • Hot flashes
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Libido changes
  • Vaginal changes
  • Depression

Restoration of Hormone Balance Requires Many Medical Approaches

Hormone repletion is not the only solution for hormone imbalances and by no means is it a cure all.  The most prudent way to treat hormonal imbalances is with a "whole person" approach.  While bio-identical hormones can have a significant impact on your overall health and well being, there are many more necessary aspects of a woman's health that need to be addressed with as many treatment modalities as possible.  The Doctors at Tru Health are experts in restoring hormone balance naturally and are skilled in determining which medical treatments are most appropriate for you as a unique individual.

You are Unique!

Generally speaking, most women do not respond well to "protocols".  Protocols are structured hormone replacement programs that many practitioners recommend when they lack the confidence or training necessary to treat each and every patient differently and individually.  No two people are the same and as such, you can rest assured that our doctors will provide you with the highest quality of medical care, as they listen to your unique needs and wants.  Based on a thorough medical assessment and lab analysis, you will be provided with the information required to make an informed decision as you work with your doctor.
